Which do you prefer for conceal carry; revolver or semi-auto?

I'm trying to decide before I go out and buy the gun I want for my CCW permit. I really love the new Smith&Wesson bodyguard .38 special and was going to buy it, but now I'm considering getting a sub-compact semi-auto in .40 s&w. My reason being is that I feel I can reload a magazine a lot faster than speed loaders for a revolver. Not sure which model I like yet. I just don't care for .380's and would rather not get a 9mm unless popular opinion/knowledge advises otherwise over the .40 s&w. Where do .38 spl & .40 s&w fall ballistically? If you have any sub-compact semi-autos you recommend, please share. I decided against the .45 acp & .357 magnum for a short barrel/conceal gun due to recoil. So should I go for the bodyguard .38 or a semi auto in subcompact? I know I have a few different questions in one, but I really appreciate your help! Thanks.
