Why is the .22lr so underrated?

It can shot with the same muzzle energy as a .380 acp using cci stingers and yet people say a .380 is a excellent home defense round while the .22 lr is the worst. I've killed wild boar 100-150 lbs with my .22 lr, i don't see how it won't stop/kill an intruder. A lot of people suggest firearms WAY to big for some game too, i saw a thread where a guy recommended a minimum 45-70 for DEER! So why is the .22 lr so underrated?
